Sarah Sadler: What it meant to shoot the Know Your Normal Charity Calendar Images

Today I have the pleasure of handing the keyboard over to one of them – my dear friend and Red Shoe photographer Sarah. Without whom this project would still be just a little idea floating around in my head.  Here she shares her reasons for wanting to be involved and you can catch a first glimpse of our beautiful Calendar Girls official photos.

The wonderful things in life are when out of the blue you get a phone call…a call that makes your heart leap! This call was from Ami, and she wanted to create a beautiful calendar for her fundraising.
So why did I want to take part in this? Why did my heart sing when Ami told me what Know your Normal was about…? Because Red Shoe Makeovers is all about empowerment…it’s about giving women a voice. And how many times do women put themselves last? How many women plod on not wanting to cause a fuss, being too busy looking after their children/work/being simply the best person they can be…not allowed to make any errors and definitely cannot complain….they have to be perfect. This pressure they put on themselves and not wanting to raise their hand and say “something is not right” And when they do how many times do they get a pat on the head and told they are simply stressed…all is fine…when they know it is not.
This is about YOU knowing YOUR normal, this is about you not just putting your hand up but shouting your voice.
I wanted these images to be beautiful, I wanted another woman to look at these women and think “You are beautiful, you are strong…you reflect me and my voice, you are doing this for me….you have taken yourself out of your comfort zone to talk directly to me….to give me that nudge to pick up the phone to the doctor, to make that appointment, and if I am told by the doctor what I know in my heart is not true, I will use my voice”
The two days shooting this calendar were the two most beautiful days at Red Shoe Makeovers…I think the behind the scenes images say it all….there was nothing but love, support…and lots of laughing. I feel honoured to have played a small part in this beautiful thing That Ami has created…
Much Love Always
